Storyline - Export Media References to CSV File

Keep track of all of your working media files externally of the Storyline application.

Background Information

Storyline does offer a limited media library internally to your project that displays the media assets you have included into your project, but unfortunately, once the media file has been imported into the Storyline project, there is no further association available with the original source media file. This command allows you to create and maintain a text-based spreadsheet of the media files in your project. Using the companion action Import Media References from CSV File, you can also make updates to the source media information, such as renaming the file, etc.

This need was first noticed on the Articulate discussion post labeled ' How to 'collect files' so that media assets and project files can all be moved to a central repository together?'. The staff answer to use Media Library was not acceptable for any cases where Media Library doesn't have the ability to track changes in the source assets, such as updated movie files, etc. That discussion can be found here: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/how-to-collect-files-so-that-media-assets-and-project-files-can-all-be-moved-to-a-central-repository-together.

Instructions

This action allows you to export information about media objects in your project to a CSV file that can be edited in any spreadsheet application or text editor.

Follow these steps to export the file.

After the file has been saved, you can use Windows Explorer to open it in Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Microsoft Visual Studio Code, or even Notepad.

Media References File Format

As mentioned above, the media references file is a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file, stored in text format, and accessible by any spreadsheet or plain text editor. Following is a brief description of each of the columns.

Name

Description

Key
